In the case of iPhones, all messages noted above will use the Messages app to send and receive messages. If you are using most Android phones, then you would be able to use RCS to send a message with just counting against your data. 1024 characters equals 1kb?. Obviously images and videos are more intensive. I do have Signal, but really not worthwhile in promoting Signal since I never had any real conversations through this service.
